Kaohsiung City Mayor, Chen, Chu, was invited by the State Council to pay a visit to U.S. at the 14th of February.
 

Kaohsiung City Mayor, Chen, Chu was invited by the State Council to pay a visit to U.S. at the 14th of February. In a total of 14 days, this trip was set from Feb 14th to 27th. In addition to the visit to the United States House of Representatives and the Department of Homeland Security, Chen gave a public speech focusing on the topics “The drifting Taiwan” and “The challenge of democracy” in the New York Taiwan Center. Later on, she also visited a number of key cities in the Western States in order to promote the World Games as well as booth recruitment.

In interviews with the mass media, Chen stated that she was invited by the U.S. State Council. And this is the first invitation sent out to the Asian cities after the inauguration of Barack Obama. During this trip, the visit to the Eastern US officials, mainly in the Senate, House of Representatives, and the Department of Homeland Security, was arranged by AIT (American Institute in Taiwan). The safety and anti-terrorism issues in the World Game 2009 held in Kaohsiung city in this incoming July were particularly concerned by the international. Thus, this visit also aimed at exchanging ideas concerning safety and counter-terrorism issues.

Chen also pointed out that she would give a public speech focusing on the topics “The drifting Taiwan” and “The challenge of democracy” in the New York Taiwan Center during the stay in eastern U.S. She said, “Recently, there are numerous overseas compatriots who have the anxiety on how with go forward to the future development of Taiwan democracy; therefore, she has the responsibility to show to those overseas Taiwan people to have faith on democracy and the human rights in Taiwan.”

As for the schedule of Western U.S., the primary goals were to strengthen on promoting the World Games and seeking for booth recruitment. Major Chen pointed out that this is a long way trip. The arrangement is pretty long and not quite easy to be done. Except the arrangements from the formal administrative bureau chief of Shin-Chu science Park- Dr. De-Rei Huang and Economic Development Advisory Conference vice-committee chairman- Ms. Mei-Yui Ho, Municipal government economic development bureau chief – Mr. Shin-Cheng Lau and the metropolis develops Bureau Chief – Mr. Wei-Ping Lu would visit Taiwanese entrepreneurs at Silicon Valley for booth recruitment; and they would also promote 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung City in key cities of Western U.S.

Chen stressed that there are 155 days left before the World Games, and all staff of the city hall are trying their best to prepare for it, and they hope that everybody may let world diligently see.
